jQuery is one of the most used frameworks there is and it is renowned for being simple, flexible and easy to learn. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of plugins to choose from. jSquares is an image grid plugin which pops up an image and a description in an overlay. A good example would be the ted.com website. jSquares can be configured to suit your needs and works on all popular browsers.
