No Android Lollipop for Samsung Note 2 and S3

Samsung have confirmed that there will be no lollipop update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3.  This is frustrating if  you look forward to having the latest updates and features or that you feel phone has never quite reached its potential. If you like experimenting then you might be interested in installing a custom rom which can actually increase your phones performance and removes all unnecessary bloat. Here are some alternative Roms to add a little Lollipop sweetness to your phone.

With so many custom roms I have hand-picked stable versions of lollipop only, hence why there are only a few and some more popular custom roms are not included as they are still in alpha, beta or testing stage.

Disclaimer:  As with any operating system please take extra care in making sure you have the correct rom for your model (There are several Note 2 etc) and read the instructions thoroughly before you start flashing your mobile phone, unless you want to use it as an ornament!

Alternatives – Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (N7100)

Benghazi ROM – Advanced Edition

Benghazi is based on CyanogenMod and AOSP which features include LED Light customisation, HeadsUp Notification and Apps to SD support.

CyanogenModX

CyanogenModX is an unofficial port of CyanogenMod which has the same features but with tweaks and various bugfixes.

Alternative – Samsung Galaxy S3 (i9300)

BlissPop

BlissPop is based on the work of CyanogenMod with a few additions from EuphoriaOS & ResurrectionRemix.  It’s well-known for being fast and very stable.

Resurrection Remix

Resurrection Remix ROM takes a mixture of features from many ROMs, including Paranoid Android, Omni, Slim and AOKP.  With support for both the S3 and Note 2 plus many more devices.

Conclusion

Like many others I am disappointed in the lack of support shown by Samsung. I switched to Samsung from my HTC 2 years ago as I thought they might offer a better update process.  After 2 years as a Note 2 owner and only 2 updates I finally switched to an iPhone, even after saying in 2011 that I would never buy one. How do you feel about the lack of support offered for lollipop?  Does it make you want to install a custom rom or have you already installed one? Please share your stories.
