FotoJet Review – The Time Saving Graphic Design Tool

FotoJet is an all-in-one free online tool for graphic design, photo collages and photo editing. In this review, I will be testing out the plus version of FotoJet which is a paid upgrade to the standard free version, which unlocks many new features, templates and more.

At the time of writing, FotoJet Plus costs $34.99 USD when billed annually. With the plus version you have access to the advanced editing tools, custom size, save/load project features, 600+ premium templates and 500+ premium clipart, fonts, effects and overlays. The canvas area is also larger with priority support and no advertisements.

Design – Under The Hood

There are set sizes for all of your social media graphics, classic poster designs and cards. The plus version, allows you to set your own custom size and with each project, you can choose from a variety of different design templates.

My First Project

For my first project, I decided to create a Google+ Header. On the left side of the canvas, you can choose from a good selection of pre-existing templates. I chose a universe template but changed the background image by searching through pixabay which is available to the right of the canvas. You can also add images from your computer and also search your Facebook profile for images. All images will be stored to the right of the canvas for easy access.

Fonts, Shapes & Clip-art

With over 30 premium fonts available text can be easily tweaked there are also some samples if you need a little inspiration. There are plenty to choose from when it comes to clip-art but I found that an item I needed was in the tag section of shape and only the outline colour can be changed. It would beneficial to allow shapes to have both fill and outline colour changed.

Layer Management

My project used several layers and although layer management is good for every individual item. In order to have multiple stacked objects, it can be tricky and you might have to move individual items to reach the one you want.

For example: In the image above, the semi-transparent overlay in the middle had to be moved to change anything underneath. If you could select the individual layers from a separate manager this would relieve any frustration.

Saving Projects and Exporting Images

Saving the file was relatively easy, projects are saved as .jet files directly to your computer. In addition, images can be exported to either PNG (supports transparency) or JPG to be used on the web. Although I like the option of saving the project to your computer I believe that a central dashboard would be beneficial to access your projects quickly and not have to load them each time.

Speed

Within an hour of playing around, I created 5 projects including a collage. The canvas was rather easy to navigate and organised well, image uploading is simple. In conclusion, using FotoJet would be a time saver not a time waster.

Rating: 8/10

  • Image Editing Capability
  • Good Value for Money
  • Plenty of Stock Images

Summary

There is no doubt that FotoJet is good value for your money. There are so many designs and templates available so you are never likely to run out of things to do. Finally, with the help of constructive feedback, I can only see FotoJet getting better year after year.
